On Tuesday the 23rd of October 2018 the GAA final began. Scoil Cholmcille VS    Harold Boys. It was a good start as Taylor got an early goal but was soon injured   and was subbed off for Alex. Then the Harold boys scored twice in the next 15 minutes. Just before half time Reece got injured put played on. The second half got even worse as the Harold boys scored 2 points whilst both teams continued to play hard but fair. Patrick then got a point but the Harold boys got another goal. With only a few minutes left there was no hope. Toot toot. The final whistle blew. We lost but our team was proud of their performance in the final and the 5th class players are looking forward to next year already. Credits to Conor for excellent goalkeeping and to Taylor, Reece and Patrick for excellent striking.

Book Cover Competition

Our school, Scoil Cholmcille SNS, started a book cover contest on Monday last week.
In the contest you must use an empty cardbord box,we used cereal boxes.
You then cover it in paper, design the front, back and the spine to look like your favourite library book. I did a book called Misteltoe and Murder,I had to design the front of my cardboard box to look like the front of my book.

The closing date for the competition is the 28th of February. Everybody in my class has created a book cover and we're delighted with our efforts.

Local Walk

Three weeks ago we began our Winter Walking Tours of the locality. The first place we went was Killiney Beach. When we were walking there we walked past a huge Church called Cill Ingean Léinín. When we got to the Beach everyone had to pick out a smooth rock that was the size of our palm to decorate for our Confirmation. After that people were throwing rocks in the sea and skimming them on the water. Some people stood to close to the water and got their shoes wet some got their trousers wet!!!!
Last Week we went to Cabinteely House it a stunning eighteenth-century country house. We took a tour around it. We had a tour guide, she told us loads of history of the house. Several different families have lived in the house over the years such as it's original owner Robert Nugent and his rise up the social and political ladder, as well as Joseph McGrath, revolutionary and key figure in the Irish Sweepstakes. First she started the tour in the office she told us the mat that we were standing on was quite expensive and a lot of the items were donated by film crews after filming. Then she showed us the dining room the was lots of fake food on the table but it looked really genuine.

We all can't wait to go on our next local walk.

Road Safety

This week in Scoil Cholmcille SNS we were visited by RSA Ireland. First Aiden sat us down and told us about our seat belts and how to wear them. He told us about what height we had to be to sit in the front and back of the car. The height to sit in the front is 150cm. Then he told us some facts about road safety and some of the laws on the roads. When he was finished talking, his colleague Laura brought us over to a fake village in our school hall, with houses, cycle paths, zebra crossing and traffic lights. Laura split us in two groups, one group went to the village and the other group went to get their picture taken for their safety licence. Meanwhile the other group were putting on their hi-vis jackets and getting ready to go to the village. My group was very good but the other group were not so good on the village. But anyway we all got our safety licences. They had our pictures of us on them. Then we went out to yard.

Science In A Box - Lilly Fox

Every Thursday we do Science in a Box. A scientist comes in to us, called Shauna. She teaches us about experiments and teaches us about space and lots of other things. She taught us about matter. Matter is gas, solid, liquid etc. Example a wall or your desk. She also did the periodic table with us. We had to memorise where everything was and then we did it ourselves. We did an experiment where we stuck a ruler to the table and  put magnets underneath the desk with tape, then we tried to see how many paperclips we could put on it without falling. We could only put about two or three because the magnet was not strong enough to hold more than four. The next week we learnt about the black holes in space. She showed us a video about them. If you get too close to it you get sucked in and that is called Spaghettification. If you go through the black hole you will never come out. This week we all got a Styrofoam ball and we got a sheet of facts. Myself and Dayah were partners. We got the planet Saturn. We coloured our Styrofoam ball Yellow, Orange, Red and Brown and then we cut out a sheet of paper to make the rings of Saturn, we put it around our planet. Then we got a prize for the best planet. We both got Marshmallows. Science in a Box is so much fun.

Daily Mile

Every day after big break we all run around the yard. Some people do two laps and some people do three laps. At the start of the year we all did three laps in a snake around the yard. A snake is, when you pick a partner and everyone lines up behind each other then we all do the three laps. The daily mile run is really good for keeping you fit and healthy. After a while you get used to doing the laps and its not so hard anymore.

Football Final 2017

On Wednesday the 14th of June the boys football team played in the all Dublin Division 3 final in the AUL Complex. Their opponents were Swords ETNS. Swords started the game well, but we soon broke through and Sean Doyle netted to score the first of the game. Soon after that Aidan Merrigan chased a long ball and got on the end of it to put us 2-0 up before half time.We went into the second half 2-0 up although Ciaran Kelly was tested early. Swords looked the better team but Evan O'Connell put the game to bed thanks to an amazing ball by Adam Mitchell. Swords soon broke through our defence and took it around Ciaran but they couldn't find the back of the net. Swords ETNS fought a hard battle but we kept them out thanks to some amazing saves by the FAI Man Of The Match Ciaran Kelly.
"All of the lad's played well and it was a good match," - Riain Geoghegan"I was happy to play and take the cup home" - Ciaran Kelly.⚽⚽⚽
